NATURE PARK OF THE UPPER SÛRE

The Nature Park of the Upper Sûre is in the north-west of Luxembourg, near the Belgian border. The Nature Park now covers four communes (162 km2) – Boulaide, Esch-sur-Sûre, Lac de la Haute-Sûre, Winseler -, which are home to a population of over 6,000.

At the centre of the park is the 380-hectare lake, which supplies around 70 % of Luxembourg households with drinking water. Tourism, culture, environmental protection and economic as well as social development are all promoted and closely integrated. The success of the concept was confirmed in 2010 when the park was awarded the EDEN prize.

A multitude of rambling paths and themed walks teach visitors about interesting aspects of the natural world, the culture and history of the region.

Visitors can cross the Upper Sûre Lake in a solar-powered boat, exploring the lake in an ecological way.

The Nature Park Centre is located in the old cloth factory of Esch-sur-Sûre. Part of the old cloth fabric has been transformed into a museum which shows the development of cloth-making. In the Centre, which is open all year, visitors can find all the information necessary to make their stay as enjoyable as possible, and there is a permanent display which shows all the attractions of the region.

WEBGIS: Nature Park of the Upper Sûre

In the context of the watercourse contract of the Upper Sûre, a project realized in a cross-border collaboration between the Nature Park of the Upper Sûre (L) and the Nature Parc of the "Forêt d’Anlier" (B), a WEBGIS has been elaborated for touristic use. This WEBGIS enables the user to discover at first glance the region of the Upper Sûre with all its varied offer.

Whether on basis of aerial images or of topographic hiking maps, the WEBGIS allows you to regroup information corresponding to your needs, for example on hiking trails, gastronomy, as well as on the cultural and natural heritage. It allows you to download altitude profiles and GPS data on all kinds of hiking trails, mountain bike routes, bridle paths or Nordic walking trails.
