SLATE MUSEUM

The site of the Slate Museum Haut-Martelange is unique in its form in Europe as it reflects a complete image of the Luxembourg slate industry and its more than 200 years old history of extraction. The working sheds, the underground mines, the house of administration, the owners residence with hunting lodge and park, the miners houses are major elements of the 8ha site. Guided tours will help you to discover the world of slate, its extraction, its splitting and drilling as well as the working conditions of the quarrymen.

 

Opening hours: 

The museum can be visited individually from May to October every first Sunday of the month. At these days, the site can be visited for free from 10:00 to 18:00, with the possibility to take a trip on the narrow gauge railway(14:30-18:00) and take part in the guided tour at 15:00.

An additional guided tour is organised at 15:00 on Wednesdays and Sundays in July and August but without the possibility of taking the train. The site is only opened during the visit.

Guided group tours (>10) can be organised on request from April to November.
